A Prayer for Deliverance©

Updated: Jan 31, 2023

Eternal Father of all creation, sometimes I feel like I'm in a cave asking : "Who am I?"

When I watch C.N.N. and see images of murdered children in Ukraine, my heart grows weary. Tears threaten to drown being. Shadows make it hard for me to see Your Light.

Why does the world chase Super Power?

You're the only Super Power!

"Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy upon us" for the ways we seek to make ourselves the ones in charge.

When we drown others with the projections of our own need for control,

as Christian theologian, Stanley Hauerwas, prayed violate us with grace!

Drown us with the tears we cause.

Awaken in us the desire to turn from self-dependency.

Replace self-centeredness with the agape made known in God become flesh to bear the suffering of all humanity for all time.

Holy Spirit, remind every human being, remind us, "Whose we are and who we are."

Triune God, Author of holy community, breathe new creation being deep within every creature.

When we get lost identifying self as any claim less than "I am a follower of Jesus of Nazareth, the Savior and Lord of all," help us see ways our self made identities plant seeds of division and hate placing your children into better than/lesser than categories.

When I shape my identity around the color of my skin, when I shape my identity around nationality, when I shape my identity around any allegiance less than loving the God made known in Jesus of Nazareth, convict me!

Awaken me!

Deliver me to live into the Good News we embody when we come together across all differences to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and love our neighbors as ourselves." (Matthew 22:37, 39. The Bible: "New International Version.").

Dear friend, Jesus, carry me into the waters of baptism where I remember whose I am and who I am. Place me on Your Potter's wheel. For every name you give me makes me whole and empowers me to become an instrument of your healing presence and love.
