What does it feel like to glide like an eagle on the winds?
To breathe in your element?
What does it feel like to be connected to the source of all power
The Holy making whole One who pours forth his agape through the river that flows from the throne of God?
What does it feel like to ride the currents of baptismal waters carrying us into Kingdom of God being and doing?
What is it like to serve as a vessel of the Holy Spirit who empowers us to continue the work of the crucified and risen Christ, Jesus of Nazareth, here and now on earth today?
What is it like to experience so much joy we feel like children flying kites while prayerfully playing at work?
When are you in your element being, doing, and embodying your authentic God given self cooperating with movements of responsible grace?
For 37 years I felt like I was in my element serving as an elder appointed to United Methodist Churches in the Western North Carolina Conference. Then being in my element led me to "retire" on July 1, 2020 at the age of 60. I "retired" much earlier than expected so I could dive into ministry and the calling of my soul in a much deeper way.
Being and doing ministry breathed by Midwife Holy Spirit often surprises.
Being and doing ministry conceived by the Creator of all new life looks like stepping out of expected and comfortable roles to dare to be part of an audacious vision only God can bring to fruition. (When you have time, I invite you to take a look at one such vision as described on this website at the About Section and the Courses Section. I cherish your prayers and input!)
Being and doing ministry in your element may look like making less money with less status and recognition.
Being and doing ministry in your element will look like riding the winds to be carried to the next person God wants you to meet.
It looks like joining with others who share similar dreams and passions to serve as instruments of God's Kingdom Come.
In summary,
Being and doing ministry may look like a lot like living into the Wesley Covenant Prayer:
"I am no longer my own, but Yours. Put me to what you will, place me with whom You will. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be put to work for You or set aside for You, praised for You or criticized for You. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and fully surrender all things to Your glory and service. And now, O wonderful and holy God, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustaner, You are mine, and I am Yours. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it also be made in heaven. Amen."
(Attributed to John Wesley, one of the key leaders who got caught up in the movement of the Spirit called "Methodism.").
Holy triune God, help us live into The Wesley Covenant Prayer and we will breathe in our element, be in our element, do in our element, minister in our element! We will become like children prayerfully playing at work! We will feel like children gleefully gliding with kites dancing in the wind!
